TOCI Founder and Managing Director Ezra Mremi Receives Prestigious Marsh Award

The Tanzania Owl Conservation Initiative (TOCI) is proud to announce that its Founder and Managing Director, Ezra Mremi, has been recognized with the prestigious Marsh Award for Early Career Conservation for his dedication, commitment, and contribution to wildlife conservation in Tanzania. Presented through the Marsh Charitable Trust and Fauna & Flora, the award recognizes his efforts to advance owl research, raise public awareness about the importance of owls, and promote the conservation of threatened owl species and their habitats. This recognition highlights the importance of his work to protect some of Tanzania’s lesser-known but ecologically significant bird species, particularly those facing habitat loss, persecution, and limited conservation attention.

Through his research and community engagement, Ezra has championed the protection of owls, including the Endangered Sokoke Scops Owl and the threatened Usambara Eagle-Owl, while promoting the conservation of the forests they depend on. His work combines scientific research, environmental education, habitat restoration, and collaboration with local communities and conservation partners to address the challenges facing these remarkable birds. This award represents an important milestone for both Ezra and TOCI, strengthening their commitment to advancing owl conservation in Tanzania.
